The Volunteer Center Board of Directors

Eileen Berry, Secretary

A resident of Pleasanton, Eileen Berry has worked in the financial services industry for over twenty years in the areas of marketing and technology. She was formerly a board member of CASR of Contra Costa (now called Court Appointed Special Advocates) and has served on several other not-for-profit boards. Early in her career, Eileen co-founded a regional professional development association for credit union marketers. Over the years she has produced and assisted several fund-raising events to benefit local charities. As a member of the Volunteer Center of the East Bay, Eileen hopes to use her expertise in strategic planning, project management and technology to increase local volunteerism.

Jim Burke

A fourth generation Californian, Jim Burke has lived in the East Bay for the past twenty-four years. He is an Information Technology executive in the financial services industry. While his children were in school, he became active on school boards, including a nine year stint as Board President. He has worked extensively with public school at-risk students, as part of reading programs, mentoring programs, and special school events. In addition to being a board member for the Volunteer Center of the East Bay, Jim is an active member of the newly formed Know How Network, where he is putting to use his experience in strategy, finance, and technology. Jim joined this board in 2009.

Lee Ann Metivier

Lee Ann is a development officer at Eden Medical Center Foundation in Castro Valley. Before shifting her career into health care philanthropy, Lee Ann worked in fundraising at an independent school in Sherman Oaks, as well as at a school in Hillsborough. Her volunteer experience began as a Middle School student at Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women in Children in Honolulu, Hawaii. A resident of Walnut Creek, Lee Ann is relatively new to the Bay Area; having lived previously in Southern California and Hawaii. In her spare time Lee Ann enjoys reading, quilting, knitting and watching sports.

Alex Miller

Alex Miller is a Junior at Las Lomas High School in Walnut Creek. He is currently President of the Youth Action Council and is the Youth Action Council representative on the board.

Miles Mochizuki

Mr. Mochizuki is the owner of Miles Mochizuki & Associates, Certified Public Accountant. In addition to his experience as a CPA and consultant, Mr. Mochizuki served as Finance Director of Pacific Telesis Group (a Fortune 500 company and the parent company of Pacific Bell, Nevada Bell, and PacTel Cellular), and Chief Financial Officer of MobileForce Technologies, Logilent Learning Systems, and Innopath Software. He received bachelor and master degrees in business from the University of Hawaii and studied business and economics at the Institute for International Studies and Training (IIST) in Shizuoka, Japan. Mr. Mochizuki has been a resident of San Ramon since 1988.

Robin Raber-Luna, Chair

Robin is a Senior Vice President with the Consumer Deposits and Small Business Group at Wells Fargo. She served as the Chairperson for two years for the company's Volunteer Leave Committee. She's also a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and was the Clinical Program Director for San Francisco Suicide Prevention for 6 years. Robin has had a long time commitment to volunteerism. She began volunteering at the age of 10 when she tutored other elementary school students. Other volunteer experiences include working with the Special Olympics, Social Advocates for Youth, Assistant Troop Leader for daughter's Girl Scouts troop, taught GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) classes at the local elementary school, Field Marshal for the West Contra Costa Youth Soccer league, Treasurer of her son's Boy Scouts troop and coordinated an annual adopt-a-family program at the local high school and in her workplace. Robin is also a published author of children's books.

John Tarman, Treasurer

A native son of the East Bay, over the past twenty years John has served the nonprofit community as a senior executive with the governing body of high school athletics in our state, the California Interscholastic Federation. Before his recent early retirement, he was Assistant Executive Director of the CIF, a role which included responsibilities as the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Marketing Officer. At various times during his CIF career, John’s management responsibilities included finance, administration, marketing, human resources, communications, media relations, volunteer recruitment/development and event management. John is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and resides in Dublin with his wife Domini.

Byron Tatsumi

Byron is a Director with the business effectiveness advisory practice at KPMG. Prior to KPMG, he worked for various Fortune 500 companies within the San Francisco bay area in the areas of technology, operations, and finance. Byron has been a long term volunteer starting at the age of 11 when he participated in a variety of volunteer activities with the Boy Scouts. Byron has been an active volunteer in supporting diverse organizations and communities within the San Francisco bay area. He has also served as a board member for Rebuilding Together East Bay-North and San Francisco’s Business Arts Council. Byron is a graduate of Oregon State University and holds an MBA degree from the University of Oklahoma.

Christian Ting

Christian Ting is currently a freshman at University of California, Berkeley, Class of 2013. After many successful years with the Youth Action Council, he applied his volunteer and humanitarian skills to the Phi Delta Epsilon pre-medical, co-ed international fraternity, where he resides as the current Delegate to the Delta class. Formerly the Representative to the Youth Action Council on the Volunteer Board, he has since been appointed to a full-time member. Christian is currently majoring in Integrative Biology with a minor in Creative Writing. He has plans to continue his education into medical school in the future.

Paul Wehrley, Jr., Vice Chair

Paul retired from Chevron Products Company as a marketing business unit manager. He formerly held managerial positions in several marketing divisions throughout the United States. He was a founding member of Friends of the Children of San Francisco, a non-profit organization dedicated to affecting a long term positive impact on our most at-risk children. He recently served as Chairman of Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa. The organization feeds the hungry of the east bay community. He is a graduate of the University of Oregon and holds an MBA degree from the University of Portland. Paul lives in Alamo with his wife Marcie and spends his free time fly fishing and writing.
