The Volunteer Center's purpose is to increase community involvement and its organizational belief is that increased involvement offers tangible benefits to all participants -- volunteers, agencies, recipients of service, and civic life as a whole. The Center's core program of volunteer referral realizes two key objectives: first, to connect people with opportunities to serve, and second, to build the capacity for effective local volunteering. In addition to volunteer referral services, the Center manages several key initiatives:
- Student Volunteering provides students with opportunities for volunteer service.
- Know How Network connects volunteers ages 55+ with professional skills to nonprofit organizations with special project needs.
- Holiday Programs provides information to community members who want to help individuals and families in need during the holidays.
- The Week of Caring places over 3,200 employees in service at local nonprofit organizations.
- Disaster Response ensures a network of volunteers available to assist in a catastrophic event.
- Volunteer Infrastructure Project increases the capacity of volunteer programs in nonprofit organizations that serve low-income children and families.
