Disaster Response

Volunteer "Role Players" Needed for Emergency Drill: As part of the disaster response network in Contra Costa County, the Volunteer Center is prepared to host an Emergency Volunteer Center (EVC) in partnership with local government agencies. An EVC connects new volunteers to opportunities to help with recovery efforts after a local disaster.

EVC DrillWe are looking for volunteers to help us with our upcoming EVC drill on Thursday, Sept. 30 from 9am to 12pm near our office in Walnut Creek. Your role in the drill is to act as the new volunteers who emerge after a disaster and want to help.

This simple role-play will provide a critical training opportunity for our staff and local government employees who will be learning how to implement our Emergency Volunteer Center plan. It's important for us to practice the plan so that we're ready to serve the community when a disaster strikes. 3 hours of your time will have a big impact on our Center's level of preparedness. And it's a great opportunity to learn about local disaster plans and how you could help, too.

To participate in our drill or learn more about our Disaster Response program, please contact Lauren Lyon at lyon@helpnow.org or (925) 472-5768.

The Volunteer Center participates in a regional collaboration with other Volunteer Centers serving the Bay Area. The Volunteer Centers are committed to providing community support in the event of catastrophic disaster and are prepared to serve as a resource center for agencies and volunteers that want to help in response to disaster.
